The Evolution of our Christmas Card

Now that our Christmas cards have mostly been sent and received, I want to share the true story behind them.

First, I gotta say, I’m so happy with how the final product turned out. Shutterfly did not disappoint. There were so many designs to choose from. I’m not sure which was harder–getting the perfect photo or picking out the design!

{Our 2010 Christmas Card}

We’ve received so many nice emails, comments and calls about our Christmas card. Everyone just loves how the dogs are all looking at the camera. Yep, I’m a legit dog whispering photographer taking photos of ourselves. 😉

Actually…I gotta be honest. I’m probably breaking some sort of photographer rule here by sharing my secret….but the photo above is not what it seems. At all.

I took the photos using my tripod, a wireless shutter release, and my camera. Nearly 90 photos later I hoped I had the money shot. (ha, who am I kidding? All of the dogs looking at the same time? In my dreams!)

Import, delete bad ones, and edit. (Did I mention Photoshop is my new best friend? But it’s the kind of best friend that is so deep, dark and hard to figure out you have to stay up til the wee hours of the night to finally have any breakthroughs with it. And unlike real BFFs, consuming wine does NOT lead to more fun with Photoshop.)

Below are the real, SOOC (straight out of camera) images that I started with and the final image we went with.

I wish I could say I’m a dog whisperer photographer.  Truth is, I just love me some Photoshop. 🙂
